When we came to refurbish our design office we called on Backhappy to
assess the work space and offer recommendations for both desking and
seating.

As a busy design team we spend many hours a day in our chairs, so it’s a
crucial area to get right and match with good desk ergonomics. One of
the key aspects that Backhappy were able to offer was sample chairs to
test for suitability and comfort over long periods of use. This was
invaluable to finding the right chair for each person, saving money on
trial and error purchases and meeting the needs of all members of staff
from the tallest to the shortest.

What are these new things called ‘In Line Document Holders’

Suddenly the market is flooded with the new breed of document holder called ‘in line’…well what’s it all about. An In Line document holder has the advantage of helping the user to work in a Linear form, this means the document they are working on stays with them, in front of them at all times and they can use their eyes rather than their neck or abdomen to switch positions to look at the document before returning to the screen. This improves the user’s overall posture. We sell two of the best In Line Document holders on our site. The first is the BMA produced Docuglide. The Docuglide is a plastic based product with a slide down writing area that also holds the documentation. The other product we sell is the U-SLOPE or uslope. This is slightly different in that it has no sliding element, the user simply pushes it back when they wish to type. The top is metal and therefore works with magnets (supplied) and it also pivots up to make this product into a combined writing slope.

DSE Assessment Training Session For Sedgemoor District Council

Yesterday (28th Feb 2008), I took a training session at Sedgemoor District Council with a group of 24 people from various departments who now make up the DSE Assessor group for the Council. The session looked at the science behind DSE including ergonomics, biomechanics and psychology and looked at the structure of a typical DSE audit and how this can be improved to make the whole process more holistic and dynamic.

Estoy aprendiendo mucho en esta empresa, pero se que todavia me queda mucho por aprender, la experiencia esta resultando muy enriquecedora, y dentro de lo posible, he tenido mucha libertad de movimiento y trbajo, lo cual ha significado, que he tenido mi trabajo pero lo he ido realizando a mi ritmo, y siendo totalmente consciente, de que si en algun momento necesitara ayuda de algun tipo, tenia varias personas dispuetas a ayudarme y a aclarar todas las dudas que pudiera tener.

Por otro lado, el hecho de no controlar demasiado el sector en el que trabaja esta empresa, tampoco ha sidop excesivo problema, ya que la primera semana, he ido realizando un trabajo, en el que he ido pudiendo aprender, muchas cosas sobre la empresa, tales como su estructura laboral, el sector en el que trabaja, los materiales que usan, maneras de llevar a cabo la distribucion… 

El hecho de poder trabajar a mi ritmo, ami manera, sin tener preocupaciones de decir tengo que hacer esto y aquello y lo de mas alla, ha sido una cosa que yo he valorado mucho en este trabajo.

Over the next few weeks we have two young German woman working with us on an exchange course run by Totnes European Language school. They will be joined next week by a young man from Spain who is with us until April. We are very pleased to help with this scheme as we get a great deal from the experience as well as the students. I asked Sarah and Mariell to come up with some pictures to show off our chairs in a quirky way..I think most office furniture brochures are too boring. The results will probably end up on a Backhappy calender for next year and I will use some for promotional material.
